Thinking about volunteering abroad?
Volunteering abroad can seem like a great way to spend your vacation; travel to exciting places, meet new people, work in an organisation to help others, learn new skills, etc. However, too often these days we hear the stories of volunteers who go abroad to help, but feel that they aren't having an impact, or worse, doing harm. Many companies are charging huge prices for "volunteering" experiences abroad, which are failing to help the local people in the host countries.
Volunteering abroad can be a great experience, and a chance for you to make a real impact. To do this, you need to think very carefully about where you are going, with who and to do what. See some of our links for advice and tips about how to avoid the guilt trip, and make a real difference by volunteering abroad.
