Medsin wants to hear from you...
Jonny Currie, the national president of Medsin, is coming to give a short talk about how students can be armed and prepared for a new era of engagement in global health improvement!
If you are involved in Medsin, or especially a related group/campaign/project, come along and join the discussion. Tell Jonny what you're doing and what you see as the future for student groups like ours. What are we actually doing?
7pm, Monday, 15 February
Location: Lecture Room G, Murray Building, Highfield Campus.
What can a "a small group of thoughtful, committed people" - a popular phrase in Medsin and quote from anthropologist Margaret Mead - actually do to change the world?
In a world of inequality, committed students the world over are rising up to face the challenges the 21st century has presented. For almost 60 years, students in the UK and abroad passionate about health as a human right have proven that we as passionate young people have the capacity, the motivation and the skills to tackle injustices in health.
Our global health network was founded by bringing an international vision from the International Federation of Medical Students Associations back to a national level, in constructing a UK network for student engagement in global health. 14 years later, we want to go a stage further and embark on a grassroots tour of the UK; engaging and inspiring local interest in Medsin and global health, eventually in the hope of strengthening our student movement for global health justice.
To do so, this January and February Jonny Currie, the Medsin-UK National Coordinator will take to the streets of Medsin Branches around the country; travelling by train, ferry and bus to visit and speak with members of 25 Medsin Branches at a variety of locations. Speaking as a student organiser in health activism, and of his personal experience in how current models for global health improvement involving youth are often less successful than they intend, each event will seek to discover the stories that bind and inspire Medsin members.
COME ALONG to hear Jonny speak and join the discussion on how students can be armed and prepared for a new era of engagement in global health improvement!
