“Social entrepreneurs are not content just to give a fish, or teach how to fish. They will not rest until they have revolutionized the fishing industry.”- Bill Drayton, Social Entrepreneur, Founder and CEO of Ashoka International
“Be the change you wish to see in the world” Mahatma Gandhi
Social entrepreneurship is a difficult term to define as refers to any business that works for social good. Social enterprises are not confined to a certain area of business nor to the private or the governmental sector alone; they can be concerned with environmental issues just as much as with social problems. The difference is that their success is not solely measured in profit and return but rather on the impact they have on society. Social Enterprises combine business practices with social aims.
There are currently more than 55,000 social enterprises in the UK, with an annual turnover of £27bn. Social enterprise contributes £8.4 billion per year to Britain’s economy and employs 800,000 people. Social Enterprise is becoming an increasingly important player in the economy.
