Dr Javid Abdelmoneim

I knew Javid as a recently qualified fellow tennant of my Regency terrace home in Charlotte St, Kemp Town Brighton. As you have stated, equally, I found him to be a sincere person who enjoyed life and was bored with the hum drum 9-5 of the UK NHS system. It is good to see that after signing up with MSF he has got his wish for more 'experience'. Perhaps a lot more than he bargained for,,? I wasn't sure if he was serious at the time (about 2 years ago, just before he left to go to live briefly in London, when he said he might be getting posted to Irak by MSF).

Shop Assistant

Organisation Details

Organisation Name:
Card Aid
Organisation Type:
Fundraising
Organisation Website:
http://cardaid.co.uk/card-aid
Organisation Mission:
Card Aid Christmas card shops raise millions of pounds each year for over 150 different charities. Unlike high street shops Card Aid ensures that at least one third of the price of every card goes directly to the charity.

Opportunity Details

Location:
Cambridge, UK
Type of Opportunity:
Fundraising/Skilled
Activities and Responsibilities:
Card Aid shops are staffed by a permanent shop manager but they also need volunteers to ensure everything runs smoothly. Volunteers would be welcome to volunteer as often as possible, but we would expect people to offer at least three hours volunteering a week, at a set time, for the duration of Michaelmas Term. Volunteers main duties include serving customers, labelling stock, helping out with signage and possibly even some PR, and generally assisting the shop manager where required.
Benefits to Participants:
Volunteering with Card Aid is great fun and a good way to gain practical experience in the Not-for-Profit sector. Each shop has some information on the charities represented, so it’s also a good way to learn about a wide range of charitable organisations.
Required Skills and Training:
No skills or training are necessary but previous experience in serving customers would be useful.
Additional Information:
There are two shops in Cambridge, one in Michaelhouse Centre, Trinity Street and the other in the Central Library in Lion Yard. Both open on 17th October and will be open Monday to Saturday. Volunteers need to be at least 18 years old.
