Want to make a difference? Develop your skills? Get contacts? Boost your CV?
The Student Hubs: Ethical Internships scheme offers all this, and more. Student Hubs:Ethical Internships matches students who want to do good with ethical organisations who make this possible. This is your chance to gain work experience, an insight into the third sector, new skills, new friends and that nice warm fuzzy feeling you get from doing, well, this.
What?
Placements take place in university holidays and last from 3 weeks to 2 months. The organisations that students intern with through Ethical Internships are a diverse mix of charities, NGOs and social enterprises. Organisations who have been involved in the past are the Birtish Red Cross, Age UK, Big Wide Talk, Ethical Property Company, Siren Conservation and the YWCA. The work students do on their internships also ranges, from communications and marketing to research and analysis.
Why?
Getting into the third sector is difficult, so we're trying to make it easier for you to get experience and work out what you do (and don't!) want to do in your career. Student Hubs selects a group of 30 outstanding students looking to get experience, and then places them into charities, NGOs and social enterprises as interns over university holidays. As an Ethical Intern, you not only have the great experience of working on your placement, you also get training and the opportunity to meet lots of likeminded people in the sector.
Previous interns have said:
"My Ethical Internship got me my first job."
"I discovered the kind of thing I might like to do for an organisation in the future [...] and gained some confidence in my abilities and experience to go on the CV."
"I really enjoyed my internship and did not want to leave. I learned so much about working in the charitable sector. All the staff were really lovely to me."
"I found out about lots of jobs I didn't know existed, which was food for thought."
"My internship has made me seriously consider pursuing charity press office roles rather than straight journalism."
